Esoteric Writers as Artists Writing Workshops
where writing is an integral part of your holistic wellness journey.
Using the Amherst Writers and Artists Method as the foundation of our writing workshops, we focus on creating safe and inclusive spaces where BIPOC women and gender-expansive writers find community, support, and growth.
Our Approach
Esoteric Writers as Artists Writing Workshops, a subsidiary of Southern Momentum Publishing House, LLC offers generative, process-oriented writing workshops guided by affirmative feedback—only. We reflect what works, what is strong, and what is memorable about any shared piece of writing. This approach is the cornerstone of the AWA Method, developed by Pat Schneider and described in her book, Writing Alone and With Others (Oxford University Press, 2003). In this way, writers are free to experiment, play, and push beyond the Western standards of writing. Affirmative feedback helps the writer align with what is working in their writer, building confidence and a sense of empowerment.
This is especially important for Black and Brown women and gender-expansive writers.
Add a writing workshop to your wellness practice.
It doesn’t care if you’re familiar with the AWA Method workshop or have never had the pleasure of taking part in one, you will discover a supportive writing community with compassionate facilitator.
Vickey F. Brown, M.Ed. is an AWA Method trained and certified writing workshop facilitator with over 25 years of experience helping all level of writers tell their story.
She encourages every writer to show up as their most authentic and unapologetic self—no masking, no insecurity, and no explanations.
She honors neurodivergence, esoteric practitioners, healing, healed, and the intro-exo-ambiverts.
The only thing she doesn’t make space for is hate speech and other low vibe shenanigans.
In-person and Virtual options
Most of our workshops are virtual.
We are open to offering in-person workshops as collaborative experiences with writing, artists organizations and collectives, especially those centering the BIOPOC, LGBTQIA+, and women communities.
We are particularly interested in partnering with Black and women-owned book stores, wellness centers, and small businesses.

What Our Mothers Didn't Teach Us: Desire, Sex, and the Erotic is a generative writing workshop that blends the Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) Method with somatic practices to reframe a woman’s right to experience Desire, Sex, and the Erotic without shame, guilt, or censure.
This 6-Week writing workshop series is rooted in safety, confidentiality, and affirmation. Participants are guided to explore their authentic identities through curated writing prompts inspired by Alice Walker, Audre Lorde, bell hooks, and Angela Davis, alongside original poems and visual imagery.
During this six week workshop, women engage in exercises that honor rage, softness, and self-reinvention, all while challenging societal narratives around if and how women have the right to experience and expect pleasure.
Somatic practices—including grounding breath work, chair yoga and guided meditation—support embodiment and emotional release throughout each 2-hour session.
By the close, participants will have a new language, image, and perspective for connecting with desire, sex, and the erotic as source of power and creativity. As an act of reclamation and becoming.
The workshop series is designed for women and femmes in their reclamation era seeking community, creativity, and embodied self-expression.
The Writer’s Arc: Acknowledgment. Cognitive Dissonance. Acceptance. Empowerment. from Wednesday May 27-July 08, 2026. 6:30-8:30 PM EST.
An 8-Week Generative Writing Workshop for Black and Brown Women (Femmes) Writers Ready to Live and Create as Artists.
This transformative, live virtual workshop series is designed for writers and creatives ready to deepen their artistic identity and reclaim their authentic voice.
Through somatic grounding, intentional writing prompts, and guided reflections, participants move through four distinct phases of self identifying—acknowledgment, dissonance, empowerment, and acceptance—uncovering their personal artist archetype along the way.
Created for writers seeking more than productivity, The Writer’s Arc helps participants align with their creative purpose, clarify their audience, and expand their craft with integrity. Each session includes a blend of body-based practice, writing exploration, and peer dialogue, culminating in a clearer sense of what it means to create with courage, direction, and purpose.
Perfect for writers, emerging artists, and creatives navigating transition.
